Special Olympics offers numerous Olympic-type individual and team sports that provide meaningful training and competition opportunities for persons with and without intellectual disabilities. There are several sports that Special Olympics Louisiana offers but does not hold competitions in due to availability or other environmental factors.

Rivalry Game POSTPONED!


Due to the severe weather in the area, this year’s Unified Rivalry Flag Football Game between Nicholls State University and McNeese State University scheduled for Thursday, August 31st has been postponed. Stay tuned for more information on the rescheduled date!

Healthy Athletes

Healthy athletes checkup 9 (eyes) Special Olympics Louisiana’ Healthy Athletes program currently offers health screenings in six areas: Fit Feet (podiatry), FUNfitness (physical therapy), Health Promotion (better health and well-being), Healthy Hearing (audiology),  Opening Eyes (vision) and Special Smiles (dentistry). Healthy Athletes organizes its events in a welcoming, fun environment. Its screenings educate athletes on healthy lifestyle choices and identify problems that may need additional follow-up.

Unified Rivalry Flag Football Series is BACK!

img_0081This year’s Unified Rivalry Flag Football Game between Nicholls State University and McNeese State University is sure to be one for the books! The game will be played on Thursday, August 31st at the Nicholls State University soccer fields just outside of Guidry Stadium. Special guests include Dr. Bruce Murphy, University President, the Nicholls State band, dance team, cheerleaders, and even their mascot! Immediately after the game, all athletes, unified partners and family members will attend the Nicholls State University Alumni Association’s tailgate followed by the collegiate game between the two divisional rivals. An athlete from both the McNeese and Nicholls unified flag football team will be represented on the field during the coin toss of the football game. Special Olympics Louisiana is excited to build these partnerships with two of our Unified Champion Schools universities. See you there!

BTrinket 2nd Annual Bill Jerome Memorial Swim Meet

The DEADLINE for entries for BTrinket 2 swim meet on August 12, 2017 will be JULY 23,2017.  Entries received after that date will not be accepted.

This is an event that is open to all aquatics athletes from around the state. Please contact Paula LaCour to sign up.

Unified Champion Schools

Did you know? Special Olympics Unified Schools (formerly Project Unify) empowers youth and educators to be leaders of change. By playing and learning we will create a more inclusive world.

Unified Schools provides opportunities for young people of all abilities to be leaders in their schools and communities by promoting equality and acceptance. These leadership activities help students with and without intellectual disabilities find their voices by teaching them to become change agents striving for respect and inclusion. Get resources to help you become a leader.


Students of all abilities have the power to positively impact their school communities by promoting social inclusion. With tools such as Spread the Word to End the Word®, Get Into It, and Special Olympics College Clubs, youth are creating an educational environment where respect and acceptance are the norm and all students feel included and engaged.
