Advancement to Higher Levels of Competition
Special Olympics Louisiana complies with the criteria and procedures in the SOI Sports Rules in determining the circumstances under which Special Olympics athletes may advance from one level of competition within Special Olympics to the next-higher competition level, such as advancement from participation in Area Games to State Games, or from State Games to National Games or World Games. Special Olympics Louisiana implements the advancement criteria set out in the SOI Sports Rules in a manner which gives athletes of all ability levels an equal opportunity to advance to the next higher level of competition within Special Olympics.
In addition, an athlete must have placed first, second or third at the lower level of competition in the same sport. For example, an athlete may not advance to international or multinational competition in a given sport unless that athlete competed in that sport at a national or state/provincial competition and placed first, second or third.
